The huge influx of basking sharks into waters off the South coast at Slea Head and the Blasket Islands was featured on RTE news this week. Seán Mac an tSíthigh, a reporter for RTE and TnG, spent the day on the water with the shark research crew Simon Berrow, Nick Masset and Paddy O’Dwyer.

The news clip was featured on both RTE and TnG, helping the group to highlight the fact that Ireland has yet to legislate for protection of the sharks when in Irish waters.

The IBSP are preparing a to launch a campaign to gain protection of the species for which Irish waters form a crucial habitat.
