The Inishowen Basking Shark Study Group are now seeking expressions of interest for a new marine-based youth training programme called the Inishowen Coastal Explorers.
This programme is open to those aged 14-17 years from Inishowen who are interested in marine science, boating, nature and the environment. The programme will run for 10 weeks (Wednesday evenings 7 – 9pm and Saturdays 10 – 4pm) starting in March and finishing in May 2018.
On Wednesday evenings the group will meet in the RNLI lifeboat station at Neds Point, Buncrana and will learn new skills, such as working together as a team and building confidence as a young Coastal Explorer. On Saturdays the group will take part in practical Science at Sea activities that will increase knowledge of local habitats and species, build maritime skills (boat driving, kayaking, scientific sampling etc.) and provide a chance to take part in practical science and environmental activities whilst having fun!
The programme is subject to funding approval by LEADER through the Inishowen Development Partnership and coordinated by the Inishowen Basking Shark Study Group.
